The Main Branches Of Science
Science has basically its roots in nearly all the developments, the world has ever seen. It is owing to the study of science that man has reached to another level of progress in the field of technology, medicine, research and whatnot. This is the reason science has always been given preference over other subjects and is being integrated into academic curriculum from the very start.
However, when it comes to defining science, we often resort to explaining the branches of science since they are well illustrative of what science is all about and what areas it covers. Now there are innumerable branches of science. Following are the three main subdivisions.
- Physical sciences
- Earth Sciences
- Life sciences
Physical Sciences:
Physical sciences, if defined are the sciences that study about non-living matter. Some of the sciences that fall under this category are:
- Chemistry: It deals with the study of matter and its association with energy. Plus, you get to study about the composition, structure, form and physical and chemical properties of matter as well in this branch of science. Now chemistry has several other subcategories like organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, nuclear chemistry, biochemistry etc.
- Physics: This is basically a natural science and it deals with the study of energy and force. Moreover, it focuses on properties of matter however, here the concept of motion through space and time is also dealt upon. Most of the other sciences actually are based upon following the laws of physics.
Earth Sciences:
Earth sciences as the name explicitly describes, are sciences that deal with the scientific study of earth. Some of the subjects that earth sciences comprise of are: geology, paleontology, meteorology, seismology, geomorphology etc.
Life Sciences:
Life sciences are basically the branches of science that are all about study of the living organisms. The subjects that further fall under this category focus on the study of internal body functions and structure of body cells and tissues etc. Following are some of the branches of science that are defined under life sciences.
- Biology: This branch of science deals with the study of the living creatures. It encompasses all the various associated aspects like the structure and function of the various organs, morphology, physiology, taxonomy etc.
- Botany and Zoology: These two branches of science deal with the study of plants and animals respectively. Both the subjects focus on the form and structure of their respective species.
- Ecology: It is the branch of science that studies about the relationship of living organisms with each other and their interaction with their surroundings.
- Genetics: It deals with the genetic makeup of the living organisms.
